Meet Harmony Creek Church Legacy Member Linda Stephens

Quote: “Harmony Creek is my family. It gets me through the week—and sometimes each day.

Linda Stephens’ journey of faith is one marked by resilience, discovery, and a deep appreciation
for community. From her early years growing up in the Lutheran church to finding her spiritual
home at Harmony Creek, Linda’s story reflects a lifelong search for belonging—and the courage
to follow where her heart led her.

After graduating from Patterson Co-op High School in Dayton, Linda built a career that included
her early work at NCR and later at Anthem, where she eventually retired. Along the way, life
brought both joy and challenge. Following the end of a long marriage, Linda entered a new
chapter with strength and independence, purchasing a home in Bellbrook and beginning a
renewed search for a church community where she could truly feel at home.

That search led her to Cross Creek Church, where she had first attended with her cousin. It didn’t
take long for Linda to recognize something special—a spirit of openness, authenticity, and

inclusion that resonated deeply. She found comfort in a congregation where people showed up as
their full selves and embraced one another with genuine care.

Linda’s commitment quickly grew from participation to service. Though she prefers to work
behind the scenes, her contributions have been steady and impactful over the years. She has
supported the life of the church through roles on the grounds and maintenance committee, the
worship committee, and through her leadership in communion services, bringing thoughtfulness
and reverence to each responsibility she undertook. Her willingness to serve wherever needed
reflects a quiet but powerful form of leadership.

A defining moment in Linda’s faith journey came when she chose to be baptized by
immersion—honoring her family roots while embracing her evolving spiritual path. That
experience, along with meaningful connections to pastors and lay leaders, deepened her love for
the United Church of Christ and solidified her place within the community.

Linda has witnessed seasons of both growth and challenge within the church, including times of
transition and change. Through it all, she has remained grounded in her belief in the church’s
mission and its people. Today, she finds great joy in worship at Harmony Creek, appreciating the
engaging messages, the diversity of worship experiences, and the strong sense of community
fostered by both staff and members.

When asked what Harmony Creek means to her, Linda’s answer is simple and heartfelt: “It’s my
family.” It is a place that sustains her, offering connection, encouragement, and hope—especially
in a world that can often feel uncertain. She values being part of a community that shares her
commitment to inclusion, compassion, and social justice.

Linda’s life beyond the church is rich with family and meaningful relationships. She is a proud
mother and grandmother, and she treasures time with loved ones, even though many live at a
distance. She also carries deep love and gratitude for the companionship she shared with her
beloved dog, Sophie.

Looking ahead, Linda’s hopes for Harmony Creek reflect both her practical nature and her
enduring optimism. She dreams of a future where the church continues to thrive—rooted in its
commitment to justice, inclusion, and love—and known as a place where all are truly welcome.

Through decades of faithful presence, humble service, and unwavering commitment, Linda
Stephens embodies the very spirit of Harmony Creek Church. Her story is a reminder that legacy
is not only built through bold leadership, but also through quiet acts of dedication, lived out over time.
