Political But Not Partisan
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and a community that strives to be welcoming to all, Harmony Creek Church does not engage in activities that are considered to be partisan political campaign interventions. This includes telling people how to vote or endorsing one political candidate or party over another.
At the same time, our church is called to take a courageous stance on behalf of all who are vulnerable. Our faith inspires us to be political by boldly speaking out on policy issues and ballot measures, especially when social or environmental justice is at stake.
In her recent post, “Politics and the Church,” our UCC General Minister and President Reverend Karen Georgia Thompson discusses the importance of being political without engaging in partisanship.
“Guidelines for Congregations on Political Action” provides clarification on what kind of non-partisan political activities Harmony Creek and other UCC churches can undertake to lift up our concerns.
Please contact Pastor Michelle for further guidance when considering political action at or involving the church.
