Meet Harmony Creek Church Legacy Member Eddy Miller

"It's been part of my life for 30 years. They've been there for me, and I'll continue to be there for them."
For nearly three decades, Eddy Miller has helped shape the spirit of community that makes Harmony Creek Church a place of belonging, friendship, and faithful support.
Born and raised in Germantown, Ohio, Eddy's faith journey began in childhood. Like many people, his relationship with church evolved over the years as life brought both unexpected blessings and profound challenges. After high school, he joined the Army, where he discovered a sense of purpose and service. During medical military training, he met and married a wonderful woman. Tragically, shortly after returning home from Desert Storm, he lost his wife. Grieving both the effects of war and the loss of his spouse, Eddy eventually returned to Ohio to rebuild his life.
In the late 1990s, while working at General Motors in Moraine, Eddy came across a newspaper story about a small progressive church called Cross Creek. Curious about its message of inclusion and welcome, he decided to visit.
What he found changed his life.
"It was exactly what they said it was," Eddy recalls. "A church open to everyone."
He became part of the congregation and has remained ever since.
Eddy remembers those early years as a time filled with energy, hope, and connection. Many people who had long felt excluded from church life finally found a spiritual home where they could bring their whole selves. For Eddy, that sense of acceptance was transformative.
Over the years, he became one of the congregation's most dedicated volunteers and leaders. Whether helping with church moves, maintenance projects, special events, or countless behind-the-scenes tasks, Eddy was always willing to lend a hand. He helped save the church money through volunteer labor, but more importantly, he helped build the sense of camaraderie and teamwork that continues to define Harmony Creek today.
His leadership extended beyond physical projects. Eddy founded and led the popular G-MenGroup, creating opportunities for fellowship, service, and friendship among gay men in the congregation. He also launched the Dining Out Together group, a monthly gathering that continues to bring church members together around a shared table, strengthening relationships and building community one meal at a time.
Through every season of church life—from growth and transition to new beginnings—Eddy has remained committed to helping create a place where people can encounter God, find acceptance, and build meaningful relationships.
Life, however, has not always been easy.
In recent years, Eddy has experienced a series of heartbreaking losses, including the deaths of his brother and nephew. Yet even amid his grief, one memory stands out as a powerful reminder of what church can be.
When his brother passed away unexpectedly, Eddy looked out during the funeral service in Germantown and saw member after member from Harmony Creek who had traveled to be there for him.
"It was one of the most blessed moments of my life," he says. "My Harmony Creek family was there walking beside me."
That experience affirmed something Eddy had spent years helping to build—a church community that shows up for one another in both celebrations and sorrows.
Today, Eddy continues to attend faithfully, care for his family, and navigate life's challenges with honesty and courage. His hope for Harmony Creek is simple: that it continues to grow, welcome new people, and provide connection for those who may be searching for a place to belong.
For all the lives he has touched, the friendships he has fostered, the ministries he has helped create, and the community he has helped build, Harmony Creek Church is grateful for Eddy's faithful service and enduring presence.
Thank you, Eddy, for helping make Harmony Creek a place where people know they belong.
